Welcome to the Journey!

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Here is what I hope to achieve in this space: To use my desire to write and express myself on topics that I think are important for the world to hear. To share my stories of my experiences-in the ways that I have “put myself out there” to do great things and to fail miserably. I have done both. And I’m still on the journey, and part of my writing will express exactly this-I can get over my fear of having to be perfect, and I can start sharing.

I feel that I have some unique experiences, qualities and skills that I hope will be good for our churches and our society. I spent years living in and with the black community, and I spent 7 years living in Africa. I am passionate about racial reconciliation, and I am not sure there is enough practical solutions being considered today. I would like to share the stories of sitting down with people, and having face to face conversations, instead of basing my understanding of people only from a book! And critical thinking about what we are reading.

I am passionate about men, because I believe that greater forces and societal issues have taken the man out of the place of influence, and that the family as a whole is instrumental to a healthy society. There are many layers to this, and I am excited about exploring them in this space, and for your feedback as well!

I am passionate about the Scriptures, but you don’t need to be to visit this space. The practical application of Scripture has, I believe, a direct correlation with the experiences and journey of healing that I am on today. I believe that misapplication of Scripture has led to a dulling of the senses around what spirituality, Scripture, and “the church” is supposed to be. I do not use church language, and I want to talk about why the church is being de-emphasized, more from an internal perspective-and to offer solutions. I want to talk about church leadership, how we can care for them, and continue to encourage greater humility and shared ministry responsibilities.

I am passionate about trauma-informed care, because I believe it really is “What happened to you?” Instead of “What did you do wrong?” I am looking at exploring why even ask those two questions the way that we do, and learn to look at each other wholistically-body, mind, and spirit. Along the way we will talk about some of my favorite authors, like Brene Brown.

I am passionate about family, and I have two sons that are my whole world, and I can barely write this sentence without emotion filling my eyes and heart about how much I love them and the journey we’ve been on.

So, thanks again for being here! And, I want to officially welcome you to the journey with me!
